[unable to retrieve full-text content]MIAMI (AP) — Free Agency 2011 will be nowhere near as celebrated for the Miami Heat as the player-movement bonanza that brought LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade together a year ago.

Gabrielle Union Wears A Miami Heat Bikini When…

NBA, WAG Stephen Douglas (CRM!) September 5th. 2011, 9:13am

Here’s Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union at the beach in Miami this weekend. The fact that Union is wearing a tajazzled Miami Heat bikini shows some real commitment to the Miami fans. You hardly ever see a WAG in the team clothing of her man. Then there’s the issue of D-Wade’s Yankee visor. Does he want a trade!?

Just like that, Miami Heat in the NBA Finals

CHICAGO —
CHICAGO It’s almost as if they needed another test, something that they hadn’t been through all season, something to remind them just how talented and potentially unstoppable they really are.

Something that will be remembered forever, like that full-court ally-oop in Indiana. Except in the playoffs. Except way more dramatic. Except with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line.

There was every reason to believe the Heat was playing Game 5 with the knowledge that this was just one of three close-out games, not the “must-win” that LeBron James claimed it was after the Heat took a 3-1 series lead Tuesday.

And then it happened.

The most dizzying display of shut-your-mouth the NBA has seen in some time.

The most incredible outside-shooting display from players whose strength is well inside the three-point line.

The most remarkable and sudden three-minute turnaround the league has seen in some time, if not ever. Possibly as stunning as Reggie Miller scoring eight points in 11 seconds to shock the Knicks in 1995.

Nothing, except for maybe James’ recent clutch-shooting displays, made you believe the Heat could pull off this 83-80 comeback victory after trailing by 12 with 3:14 remaining.

Nothing. Until, of course, it started happening.

Before those final three minutes, the Heat played mostly like the team that showed up in Game 1, getting battered on the boards and playing mediocre defense as it watched Bulls players hit open shot after open shot, and even a few demoralizing contested shots.

And as if it wasn’t bad enough that the intangibles were apparently absent from the Heat, there was the Dwyane Wade factor.

Usually, the words “Dwyane Wade factor” mean good news for the Heat. This time, though, it was just the opposite. He had been getting progressively worse through this series, showing only brief moments of his usual self. And he showed off his absolute worst through three-plus quarters in Game 5. Nine turnovers, indecisiveness, bricks galore.

And then, just like that, none of that mattered.

Just like that, it was “bring on the Mavs.”

Just like that, a flurry of threes and long jumpers and Bulls mistakes, and the Heat is on its way to the Finals. Again. Somehow.

How did that happen?

Three words: Wade and LeBron.

It started something like this: Wade eight-footer, Wade layup, LeBron three-pointer, timeout Bulls.

At that point, the Heat looked like it was just scaring Chicago. The Bulls did, after all, still have a seven-point lead with two minutes remaining and the league MVP in charge.

But then it continued.

This one stretch might have been even more jaw-dropping. And it went like this:

Derrick Rose eight-footer, Wade four-point play.

Stop on that one for a second.

Wade four-point play.

Wade had been atrocious almost the entire game, to the point where everyone assumed he was injured.

And get this, Wade had not hit a three-pointer in this series until that moment. He had been 0 for 4.

Maybe it took the nudge on the arm from Rose to guide it in, but it went in. And so did the free throw. And, suddenly, the Bulls were more than scared. They were as terrified as their home crowd because the Heat was just three points back, 79-76.

From the bench, there wasn’t any timidity. There wasn’t any, “Let’s not get too excited.” They were all in.

“I was chest-bumping the [heck] out of everyone over there,” Mike Bibby said.

A closer look at the Miami Heat-Chicago Bulls series

Post staff reports

Palm Beach Post series picks:

ETHAN J. SKOLNICK, Heat Writer

The Bulls have home court, a dynamic bench, a stifling defense, active bigs,
the versatility of Luol Deng, and a point guard (Derrick Rose) who can
slither through the tightest spaces and finish with force. The Heat has
LeBron James and Dwyane Wade – and they’re healthy, connected and driven.
That’s enough. Heat in 6.

DAVE GEORGE, Columnist

The Bulls’ defense can “strangle” an offense, Erik Spoelstra says,
and that could lead to some panicky jump shooting by the Heat. Can’t get
past the notion, however, that Chicago beating Atlanta in six is not as
impressive as the Heat bouncing the Celtics in five. Rough sledding here,
especially with Chicago’s home-court edge, but Miami gets by on star power
alone. Heat in 6.

GREG STODA, Columnist

Chicago’s big men are plentiful, and they are relentless rebounders. Miami –
unless Udonis Haslem emerges as an unexpected factor – doesn’t have enough
strength to cope with them across a long haul. The difference in the series
will be Chicago’s ability to generate second-chance points. Bulls in 7.

TOM D’ANGELO, Staff Writer

The Heat has a much better chance if Dwyane Wade can take out Derrick Rose,
like he did Rajon Rondo in Game 3 of the Boston series. Otherwise, the worst
set of point guards in the playoffs has no chance against Rose, and the best
defensive coach in the NBA in Tom Thibodeau will find a way to slow the
Heat’s Big 2.5. Bulls in 6.

This season’s games

Bulls 87-86 (March 6, 2011, at Miami)

This loss will be remembered not only for Chicago’s season sweep, but also for
Miami coach Erik Spoelstra’s comments afterward, in which he said some Heat
players were in tears following their fourth straight loss. Derrick Rose
scores 27 points, and Luol Deng makes two free throws to put Chicago ahead.
The Heat’s LeBron James scores 26 but blows a chance to win the game when he
misses a jumper with six seconds left.

Bulls 93-89 (Feb. 24, 2011, at Chicago)

As Heat players play prevent defense on Rose, Deng is left alone to score a
tiebreaking three-pointer with 16 seconds left, giving Chicago the win. The
Heat’s loss was just its second in 13 games. Miami forward Chris Bosh misses
a remarkable 17 of 18 shots, and the Heat’s bench is outscored 22-2.

Bulls 99-96 (Jan. 15, 2011, at Chicago)

Rose (34 points) outduels Dwyane Wade (33) as Chicago sends Miami to its third
straight defeat. Wade gives the Heat the lead with 12 straight points in the
fourth quarter, including a trio of three-pointers, but with Miami missing
James and Bosh hobbled (both had ankle injuries), the Bulls are able to pull
out the win.

Recent playoff history

2006 FIRST ROUND: Heat wins series 4-2

On the way to the NBA title, Miami clinches the series with a 113-96 victory
in Game 6 at the United Center behind a standout performance from Shaquille
O’Neal. Shaq scores 30 points and added 20 rebounds – the first such game in
Heat history.

Before the clinching victory, Miami wins the first two games of the series at
home behind Dwyane Wade’s 30 points in Game 1 and 20-plus points apiece from
Jason Williams, O’Neal and Wade in Game 2. Chicago takes the next two games
at home behind clutch shooting from Ben Gordon (24 points in Game 3) and
Andres Nocioni (24 in Game 4) to even the series. Miami holds serve at home
in Game 5 as Wade suffers a hip contusion in the first half but comes back
to lead all scorers with 28 in a 92-78 win.

2007 FIRST ROUND: Bulls sweep Heat 4-0

Chicago buries Miami with surprising ease, a year after the Heat won the NBA
title, clinching the first-round series with a 92-79 victory at
AmericanAirlines Arena.

The Bulls, led by the shooting of Gordon and inside play of Luol Deng, take
seven of eight in the season series against the Heat. Miami’s lineup, so
great during the playoff run the previous season, starts to show its age.
O’Neal, Williams, Gary Payton, Alonzo Mourning and Antoine Walker are not
the same players they were the year before. More importantly, Wade doesn’t
get enough looks, failing to reach the 30-point mark in any of the four
games.

The series sets the stage for the blowup of the Heat’s roster, a 15-67 record
in 2007-08, O’Neal going to the Suns for Shawn Marion, and Pat Riley
eventually stepping down as coach.

Miami Heat Outscore 76ers In Third-Straight Quarter, Game 2 Lead Extending

Read More: Chris Bosh (F – MIA), LeBron James (F – MIA), Dwyane Wade (G – MIA), Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers

The Miami Heat have no interest in taking it easy on the Philadelphia 76ers, pushing their Game 2 lead to 75-52 at the end of the third quarter. Hey, Game 3 is in Philly! LeBron James is up to 25 points and seven rebounds, Chris Bosh has coasted to a double-double after a big first half, and Dwyane Wade is probably just about done after contributing 12 points.

How about those Sixers high scorers, though? Jrue Holliday and Evan Turner are both barely in double figures, and Elton Brand has seven boards. That’s more than you have. Philadelphia’s shooting percentage has nudged up to 28 — can it cross 30 by the end of the fourth quarter?

Definitely almost out of ways to say Miami is destroying the Sixers tonight.
