Heat shorthanded at point guard?

The Miami Heat may have the most talented roster on paper going into the season, but the games still need to be played and the South Florida Sun Sentinel is reporting that when training camp gets started in less than a month, the team may be without its starting point guard from last year, Carlos Arroyo . Arroyo is currently stuck on the bench at the world championships due to a "deep bruise in his left quadriceps," the paper reports. If that weren’t enough, third-year guard Mario Chalmers , who is expected to make a run at being the starting point guard, is also possibly not going to be ready to go when training camp starts, the paper reports, because of a high ankle sprain he suffered in July

Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic wants to put to rest some rumors that Arizona Republic was hearing out of Greece that had him quitting pro ball in America after his contract runs out in 2012. The paper received an email from him that assured Suns fans that he wants to stick around town for a lot longer.

Four teams after Amundson

Forward Louis Amundson has already played for three teams in his four seasons in the NBA and it looks like he’s about to add another. The 6-9, 238-pound free agent out of UNLV has four teams trying to sign him , according to ESPN. Amundson is close to making a decision, the site’s sources report, between the Golden State Warriors , New Orleans Hornets , Indiana Pacers and "an unidentified fourth team." Isiah returning to Knicks in April?

New York Knicks fans may be extremely unhappy about the prospect, but the team’s former coach and president Isiah Thomas could end up returning to the team in April , according to the New York Daily News. The contract between Thomas and the Knicks for him to be a consultant was nixed by the NBA because Thomas, as coach of Florida International University, has contact with high school players, which is against NBA bylaws. Kobe lending hand to land Raja Bell

Kobe Bryant (notes) and Raja Bell (notes) have had their disagreements in the past but the five-time NBA champ Bryant is putting all that aside to meet with Bell today and try to convince him to come play for the Lakers for the $1.77 million left in its midlevel exception, according to the Los Angeles Times. As Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported yesterday, the Lakers and San Antonio Spurs are the frontrunners to land the 33-year-old Bell, who only played six games last year for the Charlotte Bobcats and Golden State Warriors .

Mike Miller not joining Heat?

The word since LeBron James (notes) , Chris Bosh (notes) , and Dwyane Wade (notes) all announced that they wanted to join the Miami Heat together and try to overwhelm all comers with offensive talent has been that free agent swingman Mike Miller (notes) would join the Heat to play, as his agent Arn Tellem so eloquently puts it on his Huffington Post blog, the Ringo Starr of the group . In Tellem’s blog post on Monday, he says his client is accepting a five-year deal after saying "no, thanks" to the New York Knicks , Cleveland Cavaliers , Los Angeles Clippers , and Chicago Bulls . Miller met Pat Riley and other Heat reps on July 1 when the free-agency window got thrown open.
